After graduating from Colorado State University in 2014 I had little direction on what life after college would look like. So I set off for another adventure in Kansas City, MO and moving even further away from my home state of California. I enrolled in an online graduate program in Criminology through UC Irvine and found employment through non-profits working with children, as well as a juvenile detention center for a few years. I knew then that I had a gift of working and helping youth reach their potential. Through several failed attempts at seeking employment with the Children's Division of Missouri, I stumbled upon another non-profit that was a contracted agency with the state. There I became a foster care case manager and worked with children in foster care and their parents at the primary goal of reunification. Rather than expecting a revolving door of failure with children coming back into care, we focused on healing and teaching both the parents and children to work together to complete a full and loving home. I worked at this non-profit for two years before deciding it was time to come back home to California but I knew what my passion was and quickly sought employment within social work and foster care. Parents by Choice caught my attention quickly because it reminded me of why I chose this field in Missouri. Even though I recently started at PBC I already feel like I have another "home" and am excited to continue working with foster youth in the Central Valley.
