Foster care has changed my life in so many ways, but most importantly it has just taught me how amazing it is to be able to give back to kids in need. To know that I am using my resources to help pay it forward to another family is so humbling.

Qualifications to Become a Foster Parent

  • Must be at least 18 years old to becoming a foster parent
  • Single or Married
  • Rented or Owned Home/Apartment with Adequate Bedroom Space
  • The Desire and Ability to Provide a Safe, Caring Home
  • Pass a Background Check for All Adults in the Home

The Process

  • Pass Background Checks
  • Take our Pre-Approval Training Courses
  • Begin Home Study Process

Intensive Service Foster Care

Intensive Service Foster Care(ISFC) is a short-term treatment intervention that is designed to promote healing, stabilize the child, and facilitate a rapid move to permanency.

Therapeutic Foster Care

Therapeutic Foster Care(TFC) is a mental health service provided by a trained foster parent who is supported and coached by a licensed Parents by Choice Therapist.

Parents by Choice is licensed as a Foster to Adopt agency, which means that the child is first in foster care before becoming eligible for adoption.

Yes! You will receive a monthly reimbursement depending on how long the child has stayed in your home. 


We serve multiple counties in the Central Valley area, such as San Joaquin, south side of Sacramento, Stanislaus, and Merced county.


Yes, in this case we would generally recommend fostering school-aged children unless one parent is able to be home with the child(ren).


Parents by Choice provides a great amount of support to our foster parents. We also have a Mental Health team that assists when a crisis situation occurs.
